Basics

Getting started

What are the system requirements?

Closet supports iPhone and iPad on iOS or iPadOS 18 and later, plus a native Mac app on macOS 15 and later. Some features, including Apple Intelligence and Visual Intelligence, require compatible hardware and system software.

How do I add an item?

Choose Add Item, then add an item manually, from a photo, by scanning, or from a supported webpage. Manual entry requires only a title. You can add categories, tags, colors, purchase details, and other information before or after saving.

Why does background removal look wrong?

Automatic background removal can occasionally clip dark, reflective, or transparent fabric. Open the item photo and choose the available reprocessing or photo-editing controls to try again. Keeping the subject well lit and separated from the background usually improves the result.

How does Web Import work?

Choose Add Item and use the web import option, or share a supported product page to Closet. Some websites block automated requests or omit usable product metadata. If import fails, add the item manually or from a saved photo.

Optional features

AI & purchases

Which AI features and providers are available?

Open Settings → AI Features to enable or disable individual AI tools, and Settings → AI Provider to choose or configure a provider. Apple Intelligence is available without an additional purchase on supported devices. OpenAI, Claude, custom endpoints, and supported local providers require the one-time Premium AI Providers purchase. Some providers also require credentials or configuration supplied by you.

How do I purchase or restore Premium AI Providers?

Premium AI Providers is a non-consumable, one-time purchase. Open Settings → AI Provider to purchase it or choose Restore Purchases. Make sure the device is signed into the Apple ID that originally completed the purchase.

Why do outfit suggestions feel repetitive?

AI suggestions use the wardrobe context available for the request. Logging wears and maintaining accurate item details gives the stylist better information to work with, but generated suggestions can still vary.

Your information

Sync & data

Why are items not syncing to my other device?

Make sure both devices use the same Apple ID, iCloud Drive is enabled, and Closet is allowed to use iCloud. Initial synchronization can take a few minutes. Keep Closet open briefly on both devices and check the sync status shown in Settings.

How do backup and export work?

Use the backup controls in Settings to create or restore a Closet backup file. CSV export is available for portable wardrobe records. Keep backup files somewhere secure because they can contain wardrobe details and photos.

How does Closet handle my data?

Closet is local-first and does not require a Closet account. Optional iCloud sync stores your data in your private iCloud account. Before a cloud AI provider receives text or images, Closet presents a provider-specific disclosure and requires your consent; you can revoke future sharing in Settings. Read the privacy policy for complete details.
