What the extension reads and stores

Course Book Builder reads the titles, addresses, navigation links and rendered content of pages selected for scanning or capture. Book settings, chapter titles and order, source addresses, captured text and images, and capture warnings are saved locally in your browser profile using IndexedDB. The developer does not receive your library automatically.

There is no Course Book Builder account, developer-operated cloud library, advertising service, analytics service or automatic crash-report upload. The extension does not extract your cookies, passwords or login credentials into a separate credential store or automatically attach them to support reports. Content you choose to capture can itself contain personal information, so review the source and resulting book.

Tabs and website requests

When you open the builder, it reads the chosen page's title and address. While the course view is open, it observes the active tab in its bound browser window to follow recognized course navigation and may automatically scan and save that course's title and outline. Ordinary browsing is not stored as a browsing-history log. Generic webpages are added deliberately; linked-page candidates require selection.

Scanning may read a course index to discover its outline. Capturing opens selected pages and fetches their images, including from image hosts or CDNs, using your normal browser session. Those sites receive normal web requests and may receive your IP address, requested URL, headers and applicable session cookies under their own policies. Requests go directly to the websites, not through a Course Book Builder server.

The extension can access HTTP and HTTPS pages so it can work on sites you select. HTTP is not encrypted; avoid capturing sensitive material from insecure sites. The extension does not add encryption to the browser's local database or exported books. Their protection depends on your device, browser profile, storage and sharing settings.

Exports and your controls

EPUB and PDF exports contain the selected content and can retain original source addresses and links, including private paths or query parameters. Report-address redaction does not anonymize your exported books. Review exports before sharing them. Opening an export in another app, syncing it through a cloud service, or following a source link is governed by the app or service you choose.

Saved books remain locally until you delete them, clear the extension's browser data, or uninstall the extension. Cancel keeps completed captures. You can delete individual books from Library after confirmation. Browser-profile changes, uninstalling or storage cleanup can remove local data. Exported files and copies in reading apps remain separately until you delete them there. You can also restrict or revoke website access in your browser's extension settings, which may limit capture features.

Optional parsing-issue reports

Reports are generated locally and are editable before sharing. By default, a report includes the extension version, issue category and the description you enter. Page addresses and capture status/content counts require separate opt-in. The address field removes credentials, query parameters and fragments; paths may still identify private content. Page HTML, images, cookies, login details and raw capture warnings are not automatically attached.

Copy and Download do not send a report to the developer. Open email draft passes the reviewed report to your email app, addressed to chen.dev@icloud.com. You decide whether to send it. If you send it, Chen and the email providers handling the message receive the report, your sender address and normal email information. This includes any extra information you choose to type or attach. Do not include passwords, access tokens or private content.

Emailed reports are used only for support and parser fixes and are retained only as long as needed for that work. To request deletion of a report, email chen.dev@icloud.com and identify the message, for example by subject and date. This request concerns the developer's support copy; copies in your own mailbox and email-provider systems are also subject to those providers' controls and retention practices.

Limited use and sharing

Data handled by Course Book Builder is used to provide its offline-book features and the support or parser fixes you request, not for advertising, sale, profiling or unrelated browsing analysis. The developer does not sell library data or support reports, publish submitted private reports, or automatically upload page content to an AI service. Human access is limited to support information you choose to send. Course Book Builder's use of information follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

This product website

This product, support and privacy site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Visiting it sends normal website-request information to GitHub; see the GitHub Privacy Statement. The blog may store your display-theme preference locally. Visiting these pages does not give the developer access to your extension library.

Material changes to data handling will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Use the extension only for content you have permission to save; it does not bypass website access restrictions.
