Stash support.
Capture text, lift the useful pieces, and keep them for later. These instructions cover the iPhone and iPad app.
Put text on the tape
Copy text in another app, then tap Paste at the bottom of Stash’s tape. You can also write a clip or choose Stash in another app’s share sheet. If Stash is missing, open the share sheet’s app list and add it to your favorites.
Settings → Capture when I open Stash is optional. When enabled, Stash checks the clipboard as the app becomes active, subject to iOS paste permissions. It does not continuously monitor other apps’ clipboards in the iOS background.
Lift and reuse pieces of text
- Tap a text clip to loosen it in place. Holding a clip opens its context menu.
- Use Loosen by to choose Words, Sentences, or Lines, or use Found for recognized details when available. Tap pieces or drag across them to build a selection. Use Select text for a manual selection.
- Tap the lifted-piece count to review your selection. With multiple pieces, choose Join with and check the Copies as preview. Use Copy or Share, save the result as one clip, split it into separate clips, or add it to a stack.
Lifting does not change the original clip. Settings → Keep the original when splitting controls whether the source remains on the tape after a split. On iPad, you can drag selected pieces into another app or onto a stack.
Organize clips on the shelf
Use Shelve to keep clips in a stack. Open Shelf to browse stacks, or create one with New stack. Search finds saved text. Select clips lets you copy, share, shelve, join, or delete several clips together.
Open Settings → Keep the tape for to configure history cleanup. Forever is the default. Review the cleanup preview before applying a shorter period. Organized or pinned clips are protected; exported backups are separate copies.
Use the Stash keyboard
- Open iPhone or iPad Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose Stash.
- Open Stash in the keyboard list and enable Allow Full Access to let it read your saved clips from the app’s shared storage.
- Open Stash after saving clips, then switch to its keyboard using the globe key in another app.
The keyboard inserts text you select and does not send your typing to a server. Some apps and secure fields do not allow third-party keyboards. See the keyboard privacy details.
Stash Plus, sync, and restore
The tape, lifting, stacks, keyboard, and backups stay free. Stash Plus is an optional one-time purchase for private iCloud sync and the Paper and Marker app icons. It uses your existing iCloud storage and does not add storage.
Open Settings → Stash Plus to view the purchase. If you already own it, choose Restore Purchases using the same App Store account. A pending, cancelled, or unverified purchase does not unlock Plus. If the product cannot load, use Reload purchase. Your local collection remains accessible.
Check Settings → iCloud sync for sync status. Devices need Plus access, the same iCloud account, an internet connection, and permission to use iCloud. Open Stash on both devices; an initial collection or images may take longer to sync. Purchase ownership and iCloud account availability are separate requirements.
If Settings reports local-only storage or an error, keep the app and its data in place and contact support. Signing in alone does not confirm a particular clip has synced.
Display and app icons
The Look section in Settings offers Paper, Slate, and Auto display modes. Open App icon to choose the included Slate icon or, with Stash Plus, the Paper and Marker icons.
Backups and deletion
Open Settings → Data → Back up and restore to export your collection before a major change. A backup can contain the text, images, links, and stack details you saved. Store it somewhere you trust.
Delete clips in Stash while iCloud sync is working if you want deletions to reach your other devices. Backups and copies shared or saved outside Stash must be deleted separately. Removing the app does not guarantee its iCloud data is deleted.
Link previews and privacy
Link previews contact the linked website for a title and image and can fail when a website blocks requests or requires sign-in. Use Settings → Capture and link previews → Load link previews to turn off automatic loading. Opening links or explicitly requesting a refresh or download still contacts the website.
Tokenization and text selection run on your device. You can use them without Apple Intelligence or a cloud AI account.
Report a problem
Email chen.he@icloud.com with your Stash version and build, device model, system version, steps to reproduce, and any error message.
Settings → Privacy and support → Send Feedback prepares technical details and recent logs for you to review before sending. If Mail is unavailable, use Copy Debug Info with your own email app. Remove private text from reports, screenshots, or attachments you choose to share.
